GeoMachine

GeoMachine is a web application for assembling interactive geospatial viewers and dashboards. It is used in ocean and environmental contexts to combine multiple datasets, explore time-varying fields, and publish task-specific interfaces.

Configurable application building

The platform provides configurable components—maps, layer panels, filters, and dashboards—to create tailored interfaces without starting from scratch. Dataset owners can define presets and defaults (e.g., filters, styles, visible layers) so applications open with a consistent, curated view.

Data handling and visualisation

GeoMachine supports common geospatial data forms, including vector layers, gridded rasters, and time-series/field data. Typical parameters visualised in ILIAD pilots include wind and current vectors and sea-state/temperature variables, with map-centric interaction for inspection and comparison.

Catalogue and organisation

A built-in catalogue groups datasets and application presets so projects can maintain a repeatable presentation across views and deployments. This helps standardise how layers, legends and defaults are presented to users.

Use in ILIAD pilots

GeoMachine has been used to visualise modelling and operational outputs within ILIAD pilots—for example, ship-routing/harbour-safety views and tools supporting offshore wind operations and simulation review. These illustrate how the platform fronts models, archives and near-real-time data.

Projects use GeoMachine to:

  • Publish simple thematic maps and dashboards
  • Provide front-ends for near-real-time or scenario-based “digital twin” views
  • Enable task-specific exploration (filters, time controls, annotations) for stakeholders.
