Varna Port Pilot MVP#2 - Risk Assessment Environment for Maritime Traffic Managers
Varna Port Pilot MVP#2 - Risk Assessment Environment for Maritime Traffic Managers builds on the ILIAD Digital Twin of Varna Bay. Based on real-time information processing of meteorological, hydrological, and citizen-reported data, machine learning models for location-specific forecasts of wind speed and direction, water currents and other critical parameters provide a convenient environment for traffic managers. Various tools automate the weather forecasting visualisations of significant parameters, objects and events. This environment helps traffic managers estimate the combined risk associated with multiple factors, such as ship profile and load, expected manoeuvre type, locality-specific weather conditions, etc. In essence, MVP#2 helps improve the safety of operations and increase the number of days during which the Varna Port Complex remains open (or partially open) for operations, even during unfavourable weather conditions. Field evaluations of MVP#1 technology readiness in real operational environments (https://youtu.be/4fUEx4Fl4iY) demonstrated the high robustness, usability, and acceptability of the prototype technology, with a well-pronounced interest from the end-user community in supporting further advancements.
