Ocean Data Platform
The Ocean Data Platform (ODP), developed by HUB Ocean, is a cloud-based platform to process, store and access ocean data. Since Q4 2024, ODP has entered general availability and is open for anyone to join. All users will have access to the features listed below.
Features:
- Catalog- the catalog features data publicly available in ODP. No login is required to view the catalog and it is now indexable and features multiple endpoints for different metadata structures.
- My Data- a private data space to upload data to ODP with the ability to set access controls for collaboration with colleagues (admin, editor, viewer privileges).
- API data access- APIs enable retrieval of data and metadata associated with data on the platform (both public and private).
- Storage controllers- OPD features two storage controllers: tabular is optimised to handle tabular / point cloud data types with a particular focus on querying geospatial data. The raw storage controller can handle any file type.
- Compute Workspaces-
How to use
The use of ODP is extensively documented with instructions of how to find, retrieve and store data on the platform. As part of the Iliad project, a number of additional resources were created to support partners in using the platform to develop DTOs. Specifically, two webinars were held in the lead-up to the Iliad hackathon describing the architecture and use of ODP:
- Access: users can request access to join ODP by creating account on the landing page
- Catalog: the data catalog is accessible without registration and is available here
- Data access: data in the catalog is organised by collections and datasets (children of collections). Data can be accessed in two way, it can be directly downloaded through the web interface or accessed programmatically by the ODP APIs. The API interface allows for querying and filtering to select specific data from a dataset and is documented here
- Data storage: users can store data in ODP using the tabular storage controller optimised for efficient handling of large tabular datasets or in the raw controller that accepts any file type.
