Join the Iliad Symposium at OCEANS 2025
June 3rd, 2025
This June, Brest, France will host the Iliad Symposium, held within the framework of the prestigious OCEANS 2025 conference. From 16–19 June, the EU-funded Iliad Project will unveil the results of three years of groundbreaking work developing Digital Twins of the Ocean (DTOs) — powerful tools designed to support sustainable ocean governance and enhance societal resilience in the face of environmental change.
As the final event of the Iliad project, the Symposium is set to offer a dynamic space for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and real-world demonstrations. Across six dedicated sessions embedded within the OCEANS 2025 Technical Program, Iliad partners will present their latest innovations, showcasing how ocean modelling, Earth observation data, and interoperable digital infrastructures are being brought together to support actionable decision-making across sectors.
The Symposium will begin with a dedicated joint workshop on Monday, 16 June, co-hosted by Iliad in collaboration with Blue-Cloud 2026 project. This interactive session will demonstrate the practical benefits of virtual ocean models for a wide range of sectors, from marine spatial planning to aquaculture and biodiversity monitoring. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with hands-on demonstrations, experience real-world use cases, and explore how cloud-based platforms are transforming marine data into strategic insights.
Throughout the week, the Symposium will feature two parallel tracks:
A solution-oriented track highlighting thematic Digital Twins developed by Iliad, including demonstrations of tools used in environmental forecasting, pollution tracking, and marine conservation.
A technical services track, diving into the infrastructure behind Iliad’s federated approach, designed to ensure open, scalable, and secure access to ocean data services.
Joint sessions will foster dialogue between scientists, technologists, policy experts, and industry representatives, with an emphasis on cross-sector collaboration and future integration of digital ocean tools.
“OCEANS 2025 provides Iliad with an excellent opportunity to present our federated and open approach to building digital twins,” said Charalampos (Babis) Ipektsidis of Netcompany-Intrasoft, a member of the Iliad Coordination Team. “We are proud to demonstrate the remarkable progress our partners have made in developing tools that deliver actionable marine insights and ensure the long-term health of our oceans.”
In addition to the symposium sessions, Iliad and Blue-Cloud 2026 will co-host a booth offering live demos and networking opportunities throughout the event.
The week will conclude with the Iliad General Assembly, marking the end of the project and opening the floor to discuss the future of digital ocean technologies beyond 2025.
Whether you're a marine researcher, policy advisor, or technology developer, the Iliad Symposium at OCEANS 2025 offers a front-row seat to the digital transformation of our oceans.
