Iliad at Dataweek - Digital Twins for Ocean, Waters and Cities

Start: Wednesday 28th May 2025

Join us for the session “Digital Twins for Ocean, Waters, and Cities” to discover how Iliad is advancing the EU Digital Twin Ocean (DTO) vision.

At the heart of Iliad is a powerful new Marketplace – a hub where users can access and contribute to a rich ecosystem of apps, plugins, datasets, and value-added services. Think of it as an “app store” for the ocean: enabling providers to share tools ranging from raw ocean data and AI-powered models to citizen science inputs and interactive dashboards.

As part of the EU Green Deal and Digital Strategy, Iliad supports the DTO by facilitating real-world applications and decision-making tools for climate resilience, marine restoration, and the sustainable blue economy.

Whether you’re a researcher, policymaker, or innovator, this session will highlight how Iliad is unlocking new ways to interact with and protect our oceans using digital twin technology.

Konstatina Papachristopoulou will be presenting “Digital Twins for Ocean, Waters, and Cities” on behalf of Iliad.

The session “Digital Twins for Ocean, Waters, and Cities” will address the role of Digital Twins (DT) for restoring ocean and waters, as well as supporting cities committed to climate-neutrality. It is worth noticing that leveraging the deployment of EU Common Data Spaces the adoption of DT, AI technologies in Ocean, Water and Cities will be facilitated.

The tractor will be the EU Digital Twin Ocean (DTO), a flagship initiative under the EU’s Green Deal and Digital Strategy. The DTO is a digital replica of the ocean that combines different data sources, models, and AI technologies to simulate and predict ocean behavior. The DTO helps in addressing various challenges including climate change, marine pollution, biodiversity loss, and sustainable blue economy development.

This session will provide an overall view on how DT are the drivers for fostering innovation for climate resilience and sustainability.

Key Takeaways

  • Real use cases of DT for ocean and waters restoration and climate resilience.Strategies for scaling climate action using DT.
  • Participants gain insights into the results from the EU Missions “Restore our Ocean and Waters” and Implementation of the Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities”
  • Strengthen collaboration opportunities by establishing partnerships and collaborations among stakeholders.
  • Develop recommendations for policymakers on fostering DT adoption and open data integration for climate and water resilience action.
