EGU 2025: Iliad digital twins of the ocean in practice
Start: Wednesday 30th April 2025
Digital twins of the ocean represent a transformative approach to ocean science, management, and policy-making, aligning with the UN Ocean Decade's call for innovative solutions. Digital twins of the ocean provide real-time virtual representations of marine environments, integrating diverse data sources and advanced modeling techniques. This technology enables scientists, policymakers, and stakeholders to visualize complex ocean systems, predict future scenarios, and make informed decisions for sustainable ocean management and policy development.
In this meeting you will see some of the results developed in Iliad such as technical tools and standards as well as demonstrations of their implementations in local and thematic twins.
We invite you to discuss with us how digital twins of the ocean support vibrant science by:
Facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration and data sharing
Enhancing predictive capabilities for climate change impacts, overfishing, and marine pollution
Enabling rapid response to environmental challenges through scenario testing
Furthermore, we will explore digital twins of the ocean’s' potential in integrating diverse knowledge systems by:
Incorporating citizen science initiatives to enhance data collection and community engagement
Fostering transparency and two-way communication between stakeholders
Increasing accessibility of ocean data and information to diverse stakeholders, including decision-makers
